SAFAL (Skills Academy for Appropriate Livelihoods) is a programme specifically to harness and bring forth livelihood opportunities for the low-income groups in urban/semi-urban and rural areas. SAFAL, trains to provide long term livelihoods by identifying youths, training them and placing them. The training is designed to enhance their soft skills as well as technical skills.
The training and hand-holding involves:
- Technical skills: broad technical skills, specialist production techniques, skills for product diversification, quality upgrading and/oincreased productivity.
- Entrepreneurship skills: management skills, marketing skills and market-led product development.
- Financial skills: Income management, financial planning and understanding of financial services
- Work/time management skills

SAFAL works at two levels:
- Urban Livelihood: The training and placement is focused on career in the service, construction and repairs industry and any other new economy sectors.
- Rural Livelihood: The focus is on self-employment and building enterprises.
